There is an evocative and light pale orange hue to this delicate Rosé of Primitivo. It opens with hints of lemon, strawberry and aromas of bread crust. This Rosé is bright and light, with an intricate palate of orange blossoms, citrus fruit and cantaloupe.
Planted in 2001, this vineyard sits just west of our Tasting Room. Ripening slightly early, with elongated clusters, Primitivo is an Italian Zinfandel clone that produces beautiful fruit, year after year.
The 2019 vintage can be characterized as having a moderate winter, wet spring and cool summer. These growing conditions yielded later harvest dates, with excellent quality. Rosé of Primitivo was produced by hand harvesting grapes and placing them whole cluster into the press. They were pressed at lower pressures, resulting in lower juice yields and a more delicate juice extraction (lighter color and texture). Juice was fermented cold in stainless steel tanks for a prolonged fermentation, then racked into neutral oak barrels for two months of aging before bottling.
