Hints of dried rose petals, white nectarine, and crushed granite rock perfume this smooth Rosé of Primitivo. Light-bodied, with a subdued acidity, this wine drinks easy with soft undertones of almond, honey, and minerality.
Planted in 2001, this vineyard sits just west of our Tasting Room. Ripening slightly early, with elongated clusters, Primitivo is an Italian Zinfandel clone that produces beautiful fruit, year after year.
The 2020 vintage was characterized by a dry winter with a warmer
than average spring and summer. Growing conditions yielded earlier harvest dates with good quality. This Rosè is produced by hand-harvesting the grapes and placing them whole cluster into the press. Grapes are pressed at lower pressures, resulting in lower juice yields and a more delicate juice extraction (lighter color and texture). The juice is fermented cold in stainless steel tanks for a prolonged fermentation, then racked into neutral oak barrels for 2 months of aging before bottling.
