Bright fruit aromas of apple, ripe pear and white peach are followed by toasted nuts and butterscotch, laced with honeysuckle. The 2017 Harney Lane Estate Chardonnay showcases the Lodi Appellation with a classic mix of lively fruit, nutty spice and creamy richness.
Delicious paired with shellfish, butter or cream-based dishes, rich cheeses like camembert or brie, creamy risotto, roasted autumn vegetables such as spiced and buttered squash.
The 2017 vintage was marked by a wet winter and spring that produced healthy vines and a balanced fruit set. A warm spell during the early part of harvest allowed the grapes to ripen quickly, while retaining their natural acidity.
The grapes for this program are hand harvested in the early morning and whole cluster pressed. Individual lots are then barrel fermented using a combination of indigenous and inoculated yeast strains. Our Chardonnay undergoes partial malolactic fermentation and remains on primary lees through the winter.
At Harney Lane Winery, we select barrels that will emphasize the fruit and vineyard characteristics of our Chardonnay, rather than showcasing the oak itself. Our 2017 Chardonnay was aged exclusively in French oak barrels, with a portion being new oak, and bottled midsummer after 9 months in barrel.
